SPYROS OLD VILLAGE TAVERNA -If you are looking for a true insight into Cretan food, than you should really must visit our traditional village "Spyros Koutouki" taverna next to the famous Virgin Mary Cathedral in Pano Gouves. Koutouki is the Greek word for small taverna. There is nothing more relaxing to site in the village square next to the Cathedral to watch Cretan village life enjoying a freshly prepared Greek meal from our Spiros extensive menu.

We are open all year round. Our family affair taverna provided a true experience of local cuisine with all our family involvement from my fathers land producing all locally grown fresh organic produce, picked in the morning straight into your kitchen ready for the days meals.

Guests - That love Greek food this is the place to experience our famous meze meals. Small plates of Greek delicious served with our own village wines for last season wine produce. When Spyros moved into the up to Pano Gouves family home he decided to turn the house into a lovely Koutouki taverna for the locals.

Pretty soon our taverna became a favorite place for local families to eat and enjoy to atmosphere. Nowadays your reputation has spread into the tourist market as well, guests can walk up to the village and relax with a drink or a meal.

My wife Maria my 2 children Despina and Stergios our chef is my Aunt who has over 75 recipes just for you to enjoy, come and see us we are waiting with a welcome you wont forget.

Greek wines raki in Gouves

Wines Raki - My fathers vineyard surround Gouves, each year we harvest the sun ripened grapes, after washing in spring water we crush the grapes and distil them in a time old fashion, with the spent grapes we make Raki.

During the winter we are open at 17.00, during the summer season we are open a 9.00 am for breakfast until 2.00 am. So if you wish to have a walk up to see up in the morning you are welcome to come or lunch or just enjoy a draft cold beer.

At night this is the most romantic place to sit enjoying a Greek a candle lit meal next to the Cathedral.
