Pano Gouves Church
Only a short
walk for Pano Gouves the centre cathedral is a splendid way to pass the afternoon with a walk up to the old village.
The priest opens the doors at 4.pm to 6.pm come inside to discover the painted frescos and icons.
All you need to do is buy a candle by making a donation and light it to bring you good luck.

Easter
Saturday in Holy Week the ceremony of the resurrection takes place in the courtyard in front of all churches and bells are rung all over the towns and cities.
Candles are lit one from the other and then the people make their way home for the traditional feast of dyed red Easter eggs and Mageritsa soup.

Skotino Cave
The famous cave of Skotino is located just above the village of Pano Gouves.
Guests can visit the small church next to the cave before entering, the underground world.
The cave has a path that leads you to the bottom, great for taking photos lots of fun for the kids to explore this cave.

Happy Train
The happy train is the best way to see the resorts. Train stops are all along the resorts of Gouves Gournes Kokkini Hani.
There are train stops all along the route, just look for the time tables and stops and wait, the train shall be along to pick you up the tour last for around 40 minutes.

Village Festival
This is a true feel of Crete
each year around Crete
the villagers prepare a village festival to celebrate the villages names day or the Churches names day.
The entire village participates in the event. The festival starts around 9
pm
and goes into the very early hours of the morning on the 7th September. The festival in
complimented by a traditional village Cretan meal.

Saint John Theologos
The Monastery of Saint John Theologos
is found near the village
of
Anoplios. The
monastery is noted for the trees surrounding the monastery
land.
During the Turkish occupation, a "secret school" was founded in the monastery, which
was also a hide out for rebel fighters. The monastery is located next to the village of Anopolis, open daily.

Gouves Wetlands
The Gouves wetland is located on the
north of the island of
Crete
20 minutes from the capital
airport of
Heraklion. The Wetlands are fed by the
Aposelemos River
located South of the wetland.
The water is blocked by a sand bar before it reaches the
Cretan
Sea, creating a natural inland wetland. Many bird spices visit the wetlands.

Meagaron Minoan Kokkini Hani
The
archeological Minoan Megaron site is within easy walking distance from all the
resorts accommodation. The dwelling house was built to two storey high, built of large ashlars stones.
The timber-framed paneling to the wall were covered with an insulation layer of plaster and marble cladding. The building is particularly
noted for the paved courtyard, a worshiping shrine, open daily.

Samaria Gorge
The gorge became a national park in 1962, particularly as a refuge for the rare kri-kri (Cretan goat), which is largely restricted to the park and an island just off the shore of Agia Marina.
